I loved

I was soldering some plugs on to the end of some audio visual connecting cables.
I knew that I could have purchased ready made leads at a price much lower than the cost of employing me for the time that it takes me to make up these leads.
There are several reasons why I make up these leads
1. I need them now and can not wait for the cheaper ones
2. The cheaper ones are not readily available in the right length or configuration
3. I want a higher quality than the cheaper ones.
As products can be cheaply imported into Australia, I am effectively competing with lower paid workers in other countries for the work of manufacturing leads.
I can imagine that it could be difficult for young people wanting employment, sending their resumes to many prospective employers hoping to get a job.
It was much easier for me when I first got a job. I got a job at the first place that I applied. I started immediately - fitting plugs to the ends of leads.
When I received the following poem from my 19 year old daughter, I began to think that it is time for me to make a stand.

I Loved

I loved a sunburnt country
Our anthem was sung with pride
Move over good old Clancy
Our Australia has died

I dreamed of my kids rewarded
For their work, whatever trail
But what ethics are reccomended
When our laws to protect them fail

I believed our country sacred
Our ground beginning a united tale
But all I see is polluted
Endangered wildlife's up for sale

Let this be once last reminder
To every ex-sheila and ex-bloke
G'day's sweet days are over
And their Australia is a joke
